Clematis socialis Kral

ALABAMA LEATHER-FLOWER

Clematis socialis is an erect rhizomatous species native to a small area in Alabama and Tennessee. The flowers are violet blue, narrowly urn shaped with a crispate edge, occuring spring to autumn. Leaves are linear or lobed. The species is found in wet bottomland woods, the only species of the section forming a patch via rhizomes. Should be fairly easy to propagate due to the rhizomatous nature. Not yet tried in PA in zone 6.
